  • Information reasonably necessary to provide a product or service
  • Certain technical information relating to your use of our websites, including information collected through cookies, pixels, and similar technologies

We collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or for other purposes permitted or required by law.

  • Voluntarily provide information to us for another legitimate business purpose

Our GoDaddy website contact form sends the information you provide to our business email so that we can respond to your inquiry.

Some information may also be collected automatically when you visit our websites through cookies, pixels, and similar technologies.

4. How We Use Personal Information

We may use personal information to:

  • Process, fulfill, and deliver orders
  • Process payments
  • Provide digital products and services
  • Provide mentoring, educational, and other services
  • Communicate with you about purchases, orders, services, or inquiries
  • Respond to customer service requests
  • Send email communications you have voluntarily requested or consented to receive
  • Manage customer and business records
  • Improve our websites, products, services, and customer experience
  • Understand website traffic and usage
  • Measure the effectiveness of marketing and advertising
  • Prevent fraud, misuse, or unauthorized activity
  • Meet accounting, tax, legal, and regulatory obligations
  • Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims
  • Carry out other purposes permitted or required by law

We will not use your personal information for a materially different purpose without obtaining consent where required by law.

5. Shopify and Online Purchases

Our online store uses Shopify.

When you purchase from our Shopify store, Shopify and applicable payment providers may collect and process information necessary to complete your transaction. This may include your name, email address, shipping address, order details, and other information required to process your purchase.

We use this information to fulfill orders, arrange delivery, communicate with you about your purchase, provide customer service, maintain transaction records, and handle returns or refunds.

Our Shopify store may offer both physical and digital products and may expand to include additional products or services in the future.

We do not intentionally retain customers' full payment card numbers ourselves.

6. Shipping and Delivery

We primarily use Canada Post, but may use other postal services, courier companies, fulfillment providers, shipping services, or logistics providers when appropriate.

When necessary to fulfill an order, we may provide these providers with your name, shipping address, and other information reasonably necessary for delivery.

For international orders, information may also be provided to postal, customs, tax, or other authorities where required to process or deliver a shipment.

7. Picture Book Creators and Gumroad

Picture Book Creators products and services are currently offered through Gumroad.

When you purchase through Gumroad, information necessary to process your purchase and provide the product or service may be collected and processed by Gumroad.

We may receive information such as your name and email address so that we can provide customer service, communicate with you about your purchase, or provide the service you purchased.

We may use Google services, including email and other business tools, to communicate with customers and provide services.

If Picture Book Creators products or services are offered through Shopify in the future, those transactions will also be subject to the Shopify practices described in this Privacy Policy.

8. Email Subscriptions and Marketing

MailerLite Email Subscriptions

We may offer one or more voluntary email subscriptions through MailerLite. These may include Studio Notes, local updates, announcements, special-interest newsletters, or other email subscriptions we create from time to time.

When you voluntarily subscribe to one of these email lists, we may collect your name and email address so that we can send the communications you requested.

Our MailerLite email subscriptions may be organized into separate groups or lists. You may unsubscribe from any MailerLite email subscription at any time using the unsubscribe link included in the email or by contacting us.

Unsubscribing from one MailerLite email subscription does not necessarily unsubscribe you from another subscription you have separately chosen to receive.

Shop Updates and Product Marketing

We may also offer a separate email list for new products, shop updates, special offers, launches, and other commercial communications through Shopify or another appropriate email service.

We will only add you to Shop Updates or other promotional marketing communications if you have actively provided the required consent. A purchase does not automatically subscribe you to Shop Updates.

You may withdraw your marketing consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link provided in our marketing emails.

We will comply with applicable Canadian requirements for commercial electronic messages, including Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation.

9. Third-Party Service Providers

We use third-party providers to help operate our business. Depending on how you interact with us, these providers may include:

  • GoDaddy, for website hosting and website services
  • Shopify, for online store and e-commerce services
  • MailerLite, for email subscriptions and email marketing
  • Gumroad, for Picture Book Creators products and services
  • Google, including email and other business services
  • Meta, including advertising and tracking technologies
  • Payment processors
  • Canada Post and other shipping or delivery providers
  • Other service providers reasonably necessary to operate our business

These providers may process personal information as necessary to provide their services.

Some third-party providers may be located outside British Columbia or Canada. Personal information processed outside Canada may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is stored or processed.

10. Cookies, Pixels, Analytics, and Similar Technologies

Our websites and some third-party platforms we use may use cookies, pixels, web beacons, scripts, and similar technologies.

GoDaddy Website

Our GoDaddy website uses cookies and similar technologies.

GoDaddy provides the cookie and tracking preference functionality on our website. Visitors may be asked to accept or decline certain cookies or tracking technologies when they visit our website.

Cookies themselves may be stored in a visitor's browser or device. GoDaddy may store and manage the visitor's cookie and tracking preferences on our behalf.

Some cookies may be necessary for website functionality, while others may be used for preferences, analytics, advertising, measurement, or other purposes.

Meta Pixel

Our Picture Book Creators offerings currently use the Meta Pixel through Gumroad.

The Meta Pixel may collect information about interactions with our Picture Book Creators pages or offerings. We may use this information to understand advertising effectiveness, measure conversions, understand how people interact with our offerings, and improve our marketing.

Meta may independently collect and process information according to its own privacy practices.

Future Analytics and Advertising

As our websites and business develop, we may introduce additional analytics or advertising technologies, which may include:

  • Google Analytics
  • Google Ads conversion tracking
  • Additional Meta advertising technologies
  • Shopify analytics and tracking technologies
  • Other similar analytics, advertising, or measurement technologies

If we introduce technologies that materially change how personal information is collected or used, we will update our privacy practices as appropriate.

11. Information About Children

Our work includes products intended for children, but we do not intend to collect personal information directly from children.

If you purchase a product for a child, including children's books or children's snail mail, please provide the adult purchaser's information, not the child's information.

Please do not provide a child's:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Mailing address
  • Telephone number
  • Other identifying personal information

The parent, guardian, or other responsible adult should provide their own information when purchasing a product or signing up for a service intended for a child.

If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information directly from a child, we may take reasonable steps to delete that information.

12. Information Stored Outside Our Primary Systems

We generally use Shopify, Gumroad, MailerLite, Google, and our other service providers to maintain customer and transaction information.

From time to time, we may temporarily export or store personal information on our business computer or in a spreadsheet when reasonably necessary to operate the business.

For example, we may download mailing information to prepare shipping labels or manage a mailing program such as children's snail mail.

We take reasonable steps to protect information stored in this manner and limit its retention to what is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

13. Retention of Personal Information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, provide services, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, or comply with legal, accounting, tax, or other obligations.

Different types of information may therefore be retained for different periods.

For example, transaction and financial records may need to be retained for accounting and tax purposes, while temporary mailing information may be deleted when it is no longer reasonably necessary.

When personal information is no longer reasonably required, we will take reasonable steps to securely delete, destroy, or anonymize it, as appropriate.

14. Protecting Your Personal Information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature and sensitivity of the personal information we collect.

These safeguards are intended to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, loss, theft, alteration, or other misuse.

No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

15. Your Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable legal exceptions, you may request:

  • Access to personal information we hold about you
  • Correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information
  • Information about how your personal information is being used or disclosed
  • Withdrawal of consent where consent is the basis for our use of your information

We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling an access or correction request.

Some information may need to be retained despite a request for deletion or withdrawal of consent where we have a legal, accounting, contractual, or other legitimate reason to retain it.

16. Privacy Complaints

If you have a question, concern, or complaint about how we have collected, used, disclosed, stored, or protected your personal information, please contact us first so that we can investigate and try to resolve the matter.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (OIPC BC), which oversees privacy matters under British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our business, products, services, technology, privacy practices, or applicable legal requirements.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
